The old clique a week is a long time in sports could be applied at Shark Park today, where the Newtown Jets were simply too classy for the unbeaten Cronulla Sharks. Last week the Jets were outpointed by Newcastle, today they put on an outstanding display giving the Sharks no chance.

Sydney Roosters Anthony Mitchell was unstoppable scoring two tries and creating plenty of opportunities for his teammates around the ball.

In blustery, rainy weather and facing a strong southerly breeze, the Newtown Jets quickly got into stride and opened the scoring with a runaway intercept try from Mark Kheirallah. Cronulla never looked like scoring with solid defence from the Jets.

Newtown finished the half strongly with Anthony Mitchell powering his way over the tryline and the score moved to 10-0.

The second half would see the Jets continue to dominate the play. Anthony Mitchell again scored at the 10 minute mark with Mark Kheirallah converting and the Jets increased their lead to 16 - 0.

The running and application at the ball from Newtown was superb. Peni Tagive typified the Jets spirit by running a try into the far left hand corner with 10 minutes to go. Mark Kheirallah again converted and the game was essentially over. The Sharks Sorenson scored a late consolation try but it was too little too late with the Newtown Jets running out victors 22-4. The whole Newtown team could be mentioned in dispatches for their effort today, They applied themselves fully to the game. There was little cheer for the Cronulla Sharks today, apart from Chad Townshend & Sosaia Feki this was one game they would wish to forget.

Sydney Roosters coach Brian Smith was on hand and would have been delighted with Anthony Mitchell's’ efforts along with Tom Symonds.

Jets coach Greg Matterson could not have been happier after the game. “They were outstanding today. We began hard and never stopped running. We had something to prove after our poor performance against Newcastle last week. It was a 100% excellent effort”. Coach Matterson was full of praise for Anthony Mitchell “I made a point of singling him out after the game in front of the boys for his work today”.
